Her termination made excellent gossip because a famous surname photographs better than an accounts-payable code. It also gave the department a convenient story about decorum. Envy requested comment on the vendor sequence and received a statement about employee confidentiality.
Asked whether she regrets refusing the approved route, Rachel smooths one sleeve of champagne fur and looks directly into the camera. “It hurts to be beautiful,” she says. Beauty did not alter the ledger. It may have made the chosen villain easier to recognize.
